Autonomy is one of the world's most dynamic and well established software companies, and if you see your future at the forefront of technology then you should consider a career with us. Autonomy is currently recruiting graduates from top universities, with the skills and mindset to succeed in a fast-paced environment. At Autonomy you'll work with great minds and at the cutting edge of technology, whether pursuing innovative solutions for technical problems, developing new product features or liaising with clients. It takes genuine talent to succeed at Autonomy, and you'll be joining the undisputed leader in a rapidly growing and exciting new field.

What does Autonomy do?
The volume of digital information is increasing exponentially. It represents incredible value if it can be harnessed, and a potentially huge risk if not. Formerly, the rich quality of human information had to be reduced before computers could process it, for example, distilling a feature length video into a short, searchable text summary. Autonomy turns that on its head, allowing computers to handle the full richness of human information. It brings understanding to all information whether text, voice or video. This Meaning Based Computing represents a fundamental change in the IT industry. It's changing the way human beings deal with information and understand our world.
Headquartered in Cambridge and San Francisco, Autonomy is Europe's second largest pure software company, with over 17,000 customers including blue-chip and government organisations such as Bloomberg, HP, GSK, Shell, the BBC, Sony and Nissan. Autonomy is part of the Cambridge legacy, founded out of research at the university just over 10 years ago. R&D continues to be the largest department in the company, with over 130 patents behind it, and responsible for a significant number of industry-first solutions.
What is the company like?
Students are rightly cynical about employers who make attractive claims when the reality of the work is quite different. Obviously we think Autonomy is tremendously exciting, but it's important to us that you understand what Autonomy is like so that you can make an informed decision about whether it's right for you.
So here are the facts:
Excellence is quickly rewarded at Autonomy, and we guarantee that you will be constantly challenged. From day one you'll be interacting with senior management, and with our top clients. Autonomy is not constrained by mountains of bureaucracy like other companies of its size, and the team works together to get the job done whatever it takes - so you won't always be doing the kind of things you'd expect. The company moves very fast. It's exciting and highly rewarding, and if you prove yourself you will accumulate experience of working to a very high level, across a wide range of operations and with a great deal of responsibility. People who've excelled at Autonomy frequently demonstrate superb leadership qualities and go on to become business leaders.
Software Developer
Autonomy's technical team works at the cutting edge of technology, pursuing new and unique approaches to solve technical issues or develop new product features. You'll work with great minds, and be encouraged to push the boundaries of what's possible. The team has an informal dynamic and the Autonomy office in Cambridge boasts widescreen TVs, games consoles, a pinball machine, table football, and in the tradition of our software peers Autonomy even provides a free lunch every Friday. Experience of programming, particularly in C, C# or Java is a useful asset here.
Marketing Executive
The software industry is incredibly dynamic, and to be successful the marketing team has to be ahead of the game. It's a young and energetic team, and the task is incredibly varied: from designing advertising campaigns, planning events abroad, directing conference productions, speech-writing, investor relations and PR, to being directly involved in the development of new software demonstrations and products. The marketing role brings new, exciting challenges every day, and it will take you all over the world. We don't know of a marketing team in any large company quite like Autonomy's, and no marketing job in the industry is more rewarding.
Sales Engineer
Sales Engineers provide key technical support to the sales force in order to secure crucial contracts. The role necessitates close interaction with potential clients to describe Autonomy's technology to a varied audience. This is an extremely challenging undertaking that requires a quick learner, able to apply excellent problem solving skills under time pressure. You will get to know the technology inside-out and need to be highly motivated to get the job done to an exemplary standard. It's not a nine-to-five job but it's a role that will keep you interested and take you all over the world, working with leading companies.
"Working for Autonomy has never been a 9-5 type of job for me. From my first day, when I was invited to lunch by Dr Mike Lynch OBE, the company's Founder and CEO, I was immediately gripped by the energy and vision of the company. Autonomy is a place where hard-work pays off quickly, and in less than a month I'd been given responsibility for the European marketing of Autonomy's then fastest growing division, and had the privilege of working alongside its CEO on a daily basis" James Croom, Marketing Executive
"Autonomy's software has to be highly flexible in order to meet the needs of each particular client, and that demands a great deal of imagination and creativity from the development team. I find it incredibly satisfying to be working at the leading edge of technology and it is always thrilling to watch a new system go live after weeks of preparation" Colin McQuillan, Sales Engineer
